Sometime around 7:45 or so this evening, I noticed that my mood was rapidly tanking, usually a sign that my blood sugar is low. My wife got me to eat a couple yogurts before heading to dinner with friends around 8:15. (More on that in a minute.) My mood stayed down throughout most of the meal, however, and persisted beyond that to an outing to a local game shop afterwards.
I really don’t know what’s triggering this downward swing, but I dislike it intensely. I feel isolated and alone, even with friends around me, and the only thing I can do is grin and bear it.
Having said that, dinner this evening was fantastic. We went with our house guest to meet three more mutual friends of ours for an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ. The food was very tasty, I tried kimchi for the first time (not bad, but nothing I’ll go out of my way to eat in the future), and I actually had a great time, even though I was fairly anti-social throughout the meal. It was good to get out and see folks that I know and like.
Today has been a productive one around the apartment for me. All the things that started stacking up from yesterday have been addressed and resolved.
Today was highlighted by two deliveries. The first one came straight to our door, in a shrink-wrapped cooler. Inside were several cuts of meat and a couple side dishes from Omaha Steaks, courtesy of my in-laws. We will eat well for days off this gift.
The second one was delivered to the management office around the same time, and it’s that one that I was most interested in. That shipment was my new school laptop, which I’ve spent the afternoon and evening trying to get set up. There have been some challenges getting things working, but with a little help from our house guest, all was set right before long.
The laptop is going to have two users, one strictly for school, and another strictly for stuff outside of school. The idea is that it will be able to play games in a pinch should I find myself traveling, as I will be late next week. It means that I don’t have to take more than one laptop, which quickly becomes heavy and bulky.
Right now, it’s going through a very large download, which will take several hours, so it was timed to run overnight. It should be ready for use in the morning.
Today I finally got my grades for algebra. I pulled down an 85.76% for the semester, for a solid B. I’m very, very happy with this, given the struggles I had with the second half of the semester.
Today has also been a very lazy day, and I’m going to enjoy it while I can, despite feeling guilty that I didn’t do more around the house.
It’s a far cry from last year this time, when I was doing very little because that’s all I could do at the time. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but what was once the status quo feels like so much less today. I know I was doing the best that I could, and I’m trying to go easy on myself about it, but the guilt about not doing more today and about not doing more then is still fairly strong.
Yesterday I mentioned that today we were likely going to do laundry, and maybe show our houseguest our new apartment complex, before heading off to one of our favorite restaurants to grab a bite to eat. That’s pretty much what we did today.
Except the part where my wife stayed home from work because her sinuses were absolutely exploding and she could barely move. And the part where we all went to a coffee shop and played Pokemon Go for a couple hours.
The Pokemon outing was lucrative. Restocked on supplies, and caught a couple of rare Pokemon, including my most powerful capture to date.
Tomorrow is likely going to be spent putting laundry away and generally taking it easy. Neither my wife nor I are feeling particularly well right now and I think a relaxing day is in order for us.
Not much happened today. The real highlight of the day was going to the grocery store for the week’s shopping and buying a new laptop for school.
I spent the day hanging out and gaming with our Australian friend who’s in town for a few days. I had my first Vegemite sandwich and my first fairy bread today (both were quite tasty).
Tomorrow we’re planning to go closer to downtown for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants and then maybe head to Zilker Park downtown to see the Trail of Lights. It’s supposed to be rainy tomorrow, so that’s kind of a tentative thing for us at this point. During the day? Probably laundry and a trip up to the new apartment to show off the complex.
We saw the thing tonight.
We liked the thing tonight.
We liked the thing a lot.
If you haven’t seen the thing yet, you should. It is amazing.
And no, I will not tell you anything about the thing, other than we saw the thing, and we liked the thing.
Go see the thing yourself, and we’ll talk about it privately, because there are SO MANY THINGS to talk about now that I have seen the thing.
There were other things that happened today, too, but the highlight of the day was seeing the thing.
More things later. Right now, the only thing I want to deal with is bed. And I’ll talk about that thing, because it’s not a secret, or a surprise, or any other word starting with the letter S.
Go see the thing.
Hi folks. I’m going to be brief because we had really bad problems with our microphone before our show, and that delayed our start over an hour, and we were going to run a half hour late anyway, and then we added another full set, and well … we’re going to be on the radio until midnight, so this is what you get.
Today’s been a good day, although I still haven’t heard anything on my algebra grades. Hopefully sometime Monday.
Our Aussie friend and fellow DJ is visiting for a few days, so I might be kinda short with the posts while he’s here. Hope you understand.
